Bread Recipes With Yeast

Egg Bread Recipe

Ingredients

6 3/4 to 7 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
3 eggs
2 packages active dry yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine or butter
2 teaspoons salt

Directions

In a large bowl combine 3 cups of the all-purpose flour and the packages of yeast. In a saucepan heat the milk, butter, salt and sugar just until warm. Add this warm mixture to the flour mixture and then add the eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 1/2 minute. Scrape the bowl then beat at high speed for 3 minutes. Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can mix in with a spoon.

Turn out onto a lightly floured smooth surface (waxed paper works well). Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make the dough moderately stiff with an elastic consistency. This will usually take about 6 to 8 minutes.

Shape the dough into a ball and place in a lightly breased bowl; turn once to grease the total surface. Cover and let rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (usually about 1 1/4 hours).

Punch down and divide dough in half. Cover again and let sit for about 10 minutes. Then shape your dough into 2 loaves and place into 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pans. Cover and let rise again until nearly double (approx. 45 minutes). Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cover with foil the last 15 minutes to prevent over-browning. Remove from pans and let cool on wire rack. Then all that's left is to enjoy.

Homemade White Bread Recipe

Ingredients

5 3/4 to 6 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 package active dry yeast
2 teaspoons of salt
1/4 cup warm water
1 tablespoon shortening
2 tablespoons sugar
Melted butter or margarine

Directions

Soften yeast in warm water. In a saucepan heat sugar, milk, shortening and salt just until warm (approx. 120 degrees) and shortening is almost melted. Stir constantly while warming.

Turn this mixture into a large mixing bowl and then stir in 2 cups of the flour. Hand beat well. Add the softened yeast and stir until smooth.

Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you mix in with a spoon. Turn mixture out onto lightly floured surface. Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough which is smooth and elastic (about 8 minutes total). Shape the dough into a ball and place in a lightly greased bowl. Turn once to grease entire surface. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size (approx. 1 1/2 hours).

Then punch down and turn onto a lightly floured surface (waxed paper works well). Divide dough in half and shape into two balls. Cover again and let rise for about 10 minutes.

Shape each ball into a loaf and place into a greased 8 x 4 x 2 inch loaf pan. Brush the tops of the loaves with some melted butter. Cover again and let rise in warm place until nearly double (45 to 60 minutes). Bake in oven at 375 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until bread tests done. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack.

Sweet Banana Bread Recipe

Ingredients

5 1/2 to 6 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 packages active dry yeast
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 ripe bananas, mashed (1 cup)
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon water

Directions

In bowl combine 2 cups of the all-purpose flour and the packages of yeast. Heat the milk, butter, salt and sugar until just warm (120 degrees). Stir constantly while heating.

Punch down and divide in half. Cover and let rise another 10 minutes. Shape into 2 round loaves and place onto greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with palm of hand to approximately 6 to 7 inches in diameter.

Combine the egg white and water and brush top with this mixture. Cover and let rise until nearly double (approixmately 45 minutes).
